The History of Information Technology:

Information technology can be viewed as going back to the invention of the printed word. For purposes of this article, the assumption is that the term "information technology" refers to the modern science of digital information, its recording, use, and transmission through computers.

A Brief History of the First Computers:

  Computers with integrated circuits on a single chip started to appear as affordable consumer items around 1980. The Apple II was released in 1977, and the first IBM PC in 1981. Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs), the programs that allowed users to look at screens with windows, clickable commands and color appeared in the late 1980s. Windows was introduced in 1983, while the first Apple Macintosh came on the market in 1984.
Since then, Gordon Moore's law has pretty much held place. Mr. Moore is the co-founder of the world's premier computer chip manufacturer, Intel. In 1965, he predicted that the number of transistors on a computer chip would double every 18 months. That rule held fast for chips for nearly three decades. While the pace for chips has slowed somewhat, the density of data involved in computer functions has followed Moore's law closely.
